My name is Dafne Estrella
Yes, my last name means ‘star’, it’s fitting. No, I was not named after a Scooby-Doo character.

A little bit about me
I’m a first-generation Mexican-American driven by creativity and purpose. Inspired by the sacrifices of my parents, I’ve built a career that combines passion with persistence, pursuing the kind of work that energizes me and honors the opportunities they created.
With a background in fashion merchandising and a master’s in marketing management, I love turning ideas into stories that connect people and brands. Whether I’m refining digital campaigns or supporting brand strategy, I’m motivated by the challenge of making something meaningful and, of course, beautiful.

In high school, I took a Drawing for Fashion course and completed a research project on Alexander McQueen. From that point, my interest in fashion took on a life of its own and that same year I decided to apply to VCU’s fashion program.

Years and years ago, I started running. It quickly became an important part of my life and I even qualified for Cross Country states championships my senior year of highschool!

This is a dress a friend and I once started working on for a competition in high school. The bottom half is a trash bag with attached flowers made of old book pages.

I had the privilege of serving on the Operations Committee for VCU’s 2023 fashion event, access. It was one of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a strong team.

I love coffee. So much so that for a brief time, I worked as a barista at my favorite coffee shop. I didn’t quite master the latte art, but I sure did try. See some of my best work above!

I had the pleasure of assisting at NYBFW as a dresser for Berta Bridal. This opportunity was a life changing experience that has further fueled my passion for the fashion industry… and NYC, of course!
Currently, I’m a Merchandiser at NEXCOM, where I support product strategy and buying decisions across multiple categories. My role blends data analysis, assortment planning, and vendor collaboration to ensure the right products reach the right stores at the right time. Working at the intersection of data and design has strengthened my love for understanding what drives consumer decisions and how thoughtful merchandising and marketing can tell a brand’s story. I’m excited to continue growing in roles that merge creativity and strategy.
In between work and life, I aspire to continue taking on projects that expand my skills and knowledge of the marketing and fashion industry. Whether it’s dreaming up marketing strategy, revamping a website, or getting into the nitty-gritty of trend analysis, I’m always up for a challenge.
